After months of anticipation and excitement, your new little one has finally arrived! You have survived through those first few whirlwind weeks of very little sleep, maybe Dad’s paternity leave is over and you’re just starting to feel ready to venture out and develop a new ‘baby’ social life. So which groups are best for you and your new baby? Here’s a selection of some of our favourite baby groups on The Wirral for new Mums (and Dads) and your new baby.
One to One Midwives provide a range of classes from their new Pregnancy Advice Centre in Ellesmere Port, including breastfeeding support, baby massage, baby yoga and coffee mornings. It’s a great place to meet other new mums and start to build that all important ‘support network’ or ‘village’. Their timetable is updated on their Facebook page each month.
Tots Play Baby Development courses are suitable for 0-6 months and include a mixture of massage, yoga, signing and sensory play, to allow you to connect and enjoy special time with your baby in a way which will enhance their development. Details of current classes are shown on their Facebook page and Steph, who runs Tots Play on The Wirral will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
If you want to start to get active again, and strengthen your post-pregnancy core muscles in a safe and friendly environment then Misfit Mamas offer friendly and fun Post Natal Pilates and Buggy Fit classes across The Wirral, Chester and Liverpool. Your new baby is very welcome at both classes, which are run by the very knowledgeable and experienced Debra Seery. Contact Deb to find out about availability of classes nearest you.
Moo Music have a ‘Baby Moo’ session for non-walkers which includes singing, signing and sensory play. Many of their sessions operate on a pay-as-you-go format rather than booking per term, so are more flexible if you may not be able to go every week. Their Facebook page shows their current classes which include sessions at Bromborough Bowl and Claremont Farm.
Baby Bounce & Rhyme is an interactive session for mums to introduce their babies and toddlers to the fun and enjoyment of sharing nursery rhymes, singing action songs, playing bouncing games and using simple musical instruments. The sessions are free and are include time at the end for tea and a biscuit, so you can chat to other local mums while your baby has a stretch on the mat. Contact your local library to find out current days and times of your nearest session.
Babies have a real affinity with water, having spent nine months floating in the womb and with many mum’s now choosing a water birth for their arrival. You can take them swimming from birth (they don’t have to have completed their injections) and very young babies love the freedom, massage and gentle exercise that the water offers.
‘Floaties’ classes for 0-6 months are generally held at smaller pools where the water is heated to warmer than normal. You can search the Puddle Ducks website for classes near you and there are a variety of days and times available across The Wirral, Chester, Liverpool and North Wales.
